Essay / Physical Manifestation of Architecture - 926
The initial phase of any design process involves recognizing a problematic condition and finding a solution to that problem. Design itself is a voluntary act, an intentional undertaking that corresponds to the ideals and principles of societal progression. First, a designer must recognize the existing conditions of the problem in context and then obtain all relevant information that will be analyzed later. The fundamental physical manifestations of architecture accommodate human activity, where designers study the arrangement and ordering of forms and spaces to promote effort, elicit responses, and communicate meaning. The lack of modesty reflects a cultural attitude of the time that can be attributed to the study of architecture. Architecture has had a lasting effect on Western culture. By understanding the importance of classical architecture, we are able to better understand Western cultural identities and, in turn, provide insight into what is classical in the classical world. As a society, we can then reflect on the human condition by familiarizing ourselves with the attitudes and ideas of classical antiquity. Each monumental structure reflects the history of the time and how it can project into the future. Architecture not only serves society while improving the quality of life, it is the physical expression of society's desire to be civilized..
