For a child, the first relationships they form with their caregivers will determine how they perceive the world and adapt to it. For example, if a child's needs are neglected, the child may see the world as a cold, anxious, and distrustful place, which can lead to an adult likely to develop social and relationship problems as well as depression. An early childhood with loving and supportive parents will help the child to be confident and able to talk about their needs, because they believe their needs are important and deserve to be important.
