  • Essay / The Importance of Academic Honesty - 1365

Honesty and integrity are two core Catholic and humanist values that many modern-day students seem to lack. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, honesty is defined as “the quality of being fair and truthful.” Honesty plays a huge role in our society and our daily lives. Honesty is a key characteristic that constitutes a person and defines who they truly are. Usually, if a person is very honest, which according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary means "the quality of being honest and fair." As you can see, the definition of honesty and integrity go hand in hand. Just like Spencer Johnson tells us, “Integrity is telling myself the truth.” And honesty means telling the truth to others. Without honesty, there is absolutely no integrity. In recent years, many large companies have conducted tests to determine what share of the world's population is considered "honest." WalletTest.com conducted an experiment in which around 100 wallets were intentionally left on the street, filled with a good amount of cash and a photo ID card to explicitly show who the wallet belonged to. Of these hundred wallets, seventy-four of them were returned and twenty-six were not. The sample of people they used was of mixed gender, age, and race, which made for a good testing sample. The results were good, showing that most people were honest and that honest people outnumbered dishonest people almost three to one. But honesty and integrity don't just play an important role in everyday situations. Honesty and integrity play an important role among academics at different levels of expertise: primary, secondary and college. In primary school, children develop not only their physical bodies, but also their minds. They're in the middle of paper, but it's morally wrong. If you feel like the world is about to end, the pressure and stress of studying are getting to you, and your responsibilities are starting to pile up, just relax and ask someone for advice. 'one, perhaps to a friend. Life is not worth living when you know that you have gotten far in life because of someone else. We must not give in to the temptation to make things easier, because many things in life are difficult. When you accomplish things on your own and work hard to achieve them on your own, you will realize how good it feels to know that what you did was your best. Without academic integrity, learning can never be assured. Honesty is not fixed and changes depending on the situation. Everyone should strive for academic honesty or integrity. By doing your best and getting what you deserve, you will go further in life than anyone else..
