  • Essay / Symbolism and cinematic analysis of the film Princess Mononoke

We would be sitting on the ridge without feeling anything. This is why I think the universe has its origin in chaos. A “perfect” universe would not exist, simply because a perfect universe cannot exist. Any system this large contains enough uncontrollable variables that the computational capabilities of our entire planet cannot handle it. This system must therefore be the “perfect” system. Instead of a system of no change, we have a system of constant change. Always moving, constantly losing and gaining energy. We keep tapping the ladder from one direction to another. This is what strikes me about the ending of the film. There is no sunset of pure joy. Instead, they all have to start again. The only thing that happened was a change in perspective and balance. Really, I don't know how to end this. Although I feel more comfortable with this essay than the last one, writing my own rationalizations feels wrong. If you can, go see the movie. It's excellent and I hope it provokes as many moving thoughts in others as it does in others.
