Should people become vegetarians? Albert Einstein said: “Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances of survival of life on earth as much as the evolution toward a vegetarian diet.” » Nowadays, many studies have found a growing number of vegetarians, including a survey launched by a nonprofit organization called Vegetarian Resource Group. It showed that in the United States, 6 to 8 million adults do not eat poultry, meat or fish (“Becoming a Vegetarian,” 2009, pp4). Many more people are choosing to be vegetarian because it's more flexible than before, meaning vegetarians have more choices for combining a healthy lifestyle and a high quality of life. Food products like quinoa and fake meat are available to most people. Additionally, restaurants, schools and hospitals are becoming more vegetarian-friendly with special offers. In addition to this, an iPhone app called Vegetarian Scanner can alert people that the food contains meat (DeVries, 2012, pp41). However, many people still refuse to be vegetarian for different reasons. Some people prefer the taste of meat and others believe that they were born to eat meat. Although approximately 2 billion people worldwide live primarily on a meat diet, approximately 4 billion people live primarily on a plant-based diet due to food scarcity (Pimentel&Pimentel, 2003, pp660S). As everyone knows, the population is increasing. For example, the total population of the United States has doubled over the previous 60 years, and it could double again over the next 70 years (Pimentel&Pimentel, 2003, pp660S). People won't have enough meat to eat in the future. On the other hand, a well-planned vegetarian diet offers many health benefits. Therefore, people should become vegetarians because it benefits humanity...... middle of paper ......ed by law because of killing others, then it is also wrong to kill animals. In conclusion, vegetarianism benefits many parts of our lives. A healthier body, a better environment and fairer treatment of animals are all conditions for becoming a vegetarian. Changing your eating habits is difficult, but it's not impossible. There are many types of foods today that vegetarians can choose from. The taste of non-meat foods is not that bad and some of them may be much better than imagination. It is not wise to deny being vegetarian before trying to be one. With more and more people adopting the vegetarian diet, the world will be a better place in the future: animals will be treated better; global warming will be mitigated; fewer people will starve and ultimately people will be healthier and live longer. Therefore, people should act before it is too late..
