In the United States, the minimum legal drinking age is a matter of debate and controversy. Many people argue that the age limit provides a safe environment for all citizens; while others disagree that the law creates an untrustworthy aura among teenagers. If the minimum legal drinking age were to be lowered, most people would be affected, whether it was an increase in drunk driving or an increase in crime . Although adolescents are legally considered adults at the age of eighteen and the minimum legal drinking age encourages underage adolescents to engage in risky behavior, the age limit should not not be lowered from twenty-one to eighteen years, because young adolescents would have easier access to alcohol, the minimum age. The legal drinking age has reduced alcohol-related problems, and alcohol can cause harm to underage drinkers. In the United States, many laws and restrictions have been put in place to regulate and control alcohol consumption.
