  • Essay / Compare and Contrast the Hero and Beowulf - 1023

In the film, Deadpool is crazy, quick-witted, and, at times, inappropriate, while Beowulf is confident, brave, and cunning. Deadpool has regenerative abilities, is immune to disease, and fast speed, while Beowulf possesses a magic sword, water breathing ability, and incredible strength. Both Beowulf and Deadpool were considered strong, invincible, and basically legendary. While both heroes possess superhuman abilities, their personalities are quite different. However, the characteristics of the heroes correspond to the period in which they take place. The Anglo-Saxon epic hero must have been too brave and powerful, as Beowulf shows when he succeeds in slaughtering a lake full of monsters (Beowulf, lines 575-578). On the other hand, modern heroism represents personalities or qualities seen in today's modern society: free, wild, and expressive. From the qualities described, it can be understood that the Anglo-Saxons wanted a brave and powerful hero, while modern society wants a hero with whom it can identify - as normal modern people do.
