Essay / My Personal Bike Travel Story
A Personal Story by Anthony WignallAfter what seemed like an eternity, the gray skies finally cleared and turned into a most brilliant blue, showing the welcoming signs of spring. The night rain left its fresh scent. The trees seem to breathe fresh, green air as I walk past them. The closer I get to the bike path, the bigger my smile gets and I start to feel lighter. I'm on my way to my favorite place on earth, the BMX bike track. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on “Why Violent Video Games Should Not Be Banned”? I am now in a hidden, secret place where there are no rules. There is no sound except that of the birds. The outside world no longer exists. I could feel myself slipping into this sanctuary. Filtered sunlight illuminates the many colors of the dirt road. The smooth trunks of the gum trees stand out among the green leaves silhouetted against the blue sky. Shades of orange clay darken from red to brown where water has flowed into a reflective puddle. I stop in the very center of the bike path and feel free for the first time in weeks. To my surprise, I am the only person here. This world is mine. On the lunar surface around me are deep holes and great piles of carefully hand-carved earth, towering over me, weaving through the trees, sweeping left and right. I cut down the first track and sailed over it. the first jumps stay low to maintain my speed. I took a banked turn and went around it, all the while gaining speed. As I go up the straight, my legs start to hurt. Behind me, all I leave is a trail of airborne dust, which eventually falls back to the ground from where it was disturbed. I launch the final banked turn, going around it at my fastest pace. Tree trunks pass by as I quickly pass them. The shadows of the spreading gum trees invade me. Between the shadows are fine glimmers of sunlight. These struck me like the orange overhead lights of a car tunnel. The final section of the trail is fast approaching and, in the blur of speed in my eyes, I can make out the last two big jumps. The ground beneath my tires begins to harden, causing my tires to buzz like they would on tarmac. I attack the first steep ramp and my tires give a final zzzzzzzzup, throwing me into the air. For the first time, I take off, the world slows almost to a complete stop. The feeling is incredible! I became invincible. Everything becomes clear and any problems or fears disappear from my mind. I am freed. For a split second, I reached the top of my waist and my whole body and my bike became weightless. I lose this sensation on the descent and spot the landing ramp. I land on it very softly and gain even more speed as I bring it down. Suddenly I'm thrown back into action; the world becomes blurry and my tires buzz with the speed. Between the two jumps, a slow curve was carved into the ground so that the first landing pad would slowly blend into the second launch pad. In this midsection, I lose my stomach, like I would on the first ride down a roller coaster. I hit the second ramp and once again I'm thrown into the air. Something is seriously wrong! My whole body tensed up and my brain realized that..
