    Relationships between people aim to improve interaction. The family relationship is the basic unit of interaction in which the individual learns to socialize. But in times of tragedy, families tend to depend on each other for comfort and safety. However, people can behave differently depending on the circumstances, as some can be ruthless and take advantage of others in the midst of a horrible situation. The book Night by Elie Wiesel describes the different responses of different individuals to adversity. The book describes the horrific experience of Elijah and his father and how it strained their relationship throughout the period of the Holocaust. At the beginning of the book, Elie mentioned that his father, Shlomo, was admired and respected by everyone in the family. Outside of the family, “the Jewish community of Sighet held him in the highest esteem” (Wiesel 4).
