Essay / Mark Knapp's Relationship Development Model
In Mark Knapp's Relationship Development Model, there are 5 stages of romantic relationships coming together and 5 stages of romantic relationships breaking up. In this article, I will choose 4 steps to explore further. For each of the four steps, I will use song lyrics to help analyze these steps. The first stage I chose to analyze is the stagnant stage and I used the song do I by Luke Bryan. Second, I chose the song “Falling for you” by Colbie Caillet to help examine the escalating stage. Third, I chose the integration stage and from that point on I used Shania Twain's song with Bryan White to help me interpret this stage. Finally, I chose the song When I Said I Do by Clint Black and Lisa Hartman to explain the enhancement stage of Mark Knapp's relationship development model. According to Mark Knapp, the stagnation stage of ending a relationship is defined as the relationship stage. dissolution when the relationship stops developing and the partners barely communicate. The song that I think fits this scene is Do I by Luke Bryan. In this song, Luke Bryan sings about how his relationship is falling apart. The song is about the emptiness in the relationship. Furthermore, the relationship no longer develops. The lyrics of the song that I found fitting for this are "I could bend over to hold you or act like I don't even know you, it seems like you don't care either way." These words give a clear analysis of the fact that this relationship is not developing. The stagnation stage is further explained by saying that partners feel like they are just “going with the flow.” The lyrics that I think fit this are "baby, what we're becoming, it's like we're always running, going through the motions every day." I think this sentence gives ...... middle of paper ...... Caillat. This song fits into the escalating scene as Caillat sings "I think I'm falling in love with you", which shows the relationship moving from liking him to loving. In the third step, integration, I used the song from that moment by Shania Twain and Bryan White. Twain and Bryan sing that you are the reason I believe in love and you are the answers to my prayers from above, all we need is the two of us. This song shows a deeper commitment than any previous stage of relationships. Then for the bonging scene I used the lyrics "when I said I do, I meant I will do it until the end of time, I will be faithful and truly devoted to you, that's it." is what I had in mind when I said I'm doing it." .” This song fits this stage because it shows the deep commitment and also the bond of marriage. Finally, I explain how this assignment helped me better understand empathy.
