This book completely broke my heart, in the best way possible! I had never heard of Courtney Summer or her books before. I came across this one by accident when I saw one of my favorite reviewers give it a 5 star rating on goodreads. I was curious and when I found out it was available in Netgalley to review, I immediately downloaded and started reading. The book is about Sadie, a teenager who disappears shortly after her sister is found murdered. The story is told from alternating points of view. Say no to plagiarism. We get McCray's cold clinical analysis trying to put the pieces of the disappearance puzzle together alongside Sadie's passionate and fierce determination to find the person who killed her sister, Mattie. The feelings this book evoked in me were at times so intense that I had to put the book down in several places to just breathe. It was horrible to see what can happen to young girls who have no one and nothing to take care of them. The language was so powerful that you can't help but feel all the painful memories Sadie endured in her life, from the people who were supposed to love and protect her. “Imagine having to live each day knowing that the person who killed your sister is breathing the air she can't, filling her lungs with it and tasting the sweetness of it. Imagine him experiencing the constant weight of the earth beneath his feet while his body is buried six feet below. "How can I find words to describe Sadie? She was fierce and brave and so badass that she's a match for all the other amazing literary women I admire, like Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Tattoo from Dragon and Celie from The Color Purple Her strength and fierce love literally brought me to my knees. Courtney Summers managed to infuse so much raw power and emotion that I found myself crying. several times while reading She doesn't shy away from describing sensitive issues like abuse and pedophilia It's one of those rarest books that overwhelms you with all the powerful emotions it stirs up in you. .If pedophilia and abuse aren't triggers for you, then read this must-read book.
