    The crowd sang fiercely as the horses pranced in excitement, the charioteers held back the beasts with everything they had. Knowing that every extra minute they could wait would be an extra minute they would live before the death that could come in just a few moments. Because chariot races were deadly and some of these charioteers might not return to the Circus Maximus stable. These chariots were designed to be very light so that the horse carrying them could run twice as fast. Since the chariots were light and did not have a seat for the driver to sit on, some drivers fell from the chariots they were driving. Some became entangled in the reins and fell from the chariot, thus being drugged to death by the horse traveling the course. The driver may have also fallen from the tank and ended up being crushed by the rest of the racing tanks, traveling too fast to stop. The men driving the chariots were mostly slaves or other people who simply wanted to run and enjoy the sport. (PBS, 2013) Tanks were used in many other situations....
