Scope StatementAre Erotic Art and Pornography the Same? This is a controversial subject. Sometimes the concept of pornography is well accepted and can even be conceived as an artistic expression of erotic pleasure. On the other hand, it can be called sinful and obscene. But the question of whether erotic art can be categorized as pornography enters this global debate. What factors can affect their distinction? The Sex Museum located in New York has sparked controversy among those who know it. Could the exhibits be pornography and therefore have a negative connotation? Can the painting Venus in a mirror have a negative pornographic meaning? Can it be conceived as a positive art of cultural nourishment? November 14, 2013.The main thesis of this empirical and theoretical essay concerns how the categorization of something between the concepts of art and pornography depends on moral and aesthetic criteria. The test was carried out on the basis of a study applied to three hundred students. An image of a couple masturbating was shown and different human concepts and classifications were created based on the students' responses. The relationship between art and pornography or vice versa was very prevalent among the student sample. Their responses and interpretations distinguished between something that was porn, art, or both. These concepts which have been very controversial regarding their differences and similarities are now being questioned in a different way. The idea of individuals giving their own perspective on a masturbating image led to a human classification: No Artistic Conservatives, No Artistic Liberals, Artistic Liberals, and Artistic Conservatives.
