Essay / Franklin D. Roosevelt's Impact on the Great Depression most dominant known as the Great Depression. like World War II. While remaining optimistic, Franklin Roosevelt helped people regain self-confidence. Despite all the chaos at the time, "he received the understanding and support from the people themselves which are essential to victory (p. 90)." He was praised for pushing the government to help the most disadvantaged. It was a new beginning for Americans, known as the New Deal. He told the country to live according to; “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself (p. 90).” Franklin Roosevelt had a very large impact during this time and his laws that were passed had great influence to use today and in the future. During his first hundred days in office, Franklin Roosevelt pushed through many new programs to help restore the nation and did his best to end the Depression. Depression has had a traumatic effect on the world and has affected many people. More than you can imagine, too many businesses have closed their doors, leaving people jobless, homeless, and killing farms. Those who were lucky enough to still have a job saw their wages drop dramatically. “Only a foolish optimist can deny the dark realities of the moment (p. 90).” You cannot deny or ignore reality. In the banks that were still open, people withdrew their money, which ended up causing problems. “They only concern, thank God, material things. Values have been reduced to fantasti...... middle of paper...... economy in many different ways. The general theme appears to be emergency relief, recovery and reform. The relief would be to have a new president and hope that he is able to extinguish all the problems that have arisen. Recovery puts an end to any further crisis and reform would be about restoring or rebuilding the country and not necessarily putting it back the way it was but giving it a fresh start and leaving it so that this tragedy doesn't happen . Again. In many ways, Obama is now doing some of the things that Franklin Roosevelt needed to do to save the world from another depression. Today the economy is in decline. The rate of unemployed people is very high and, without employment, the economy has no money to pay for the necessities of life. Obama uses many programs created by Roosevelt and hopes the economy will soon improve instead of getting worse..
