Gay is Okay!Should gay people be treated with the same respect as everyone else? Conservative Christians and homosexuals are at it again. They never seem to get tired of this war. Few Christians have the courage to admit that they believe that all homosexuals should be treated with the same respect as any other person! It seems that only a person with a number of gay and lesbian friends and acquaintances can understand the importance of knowing the people behind the labels and images created by society; and their experience of connecting with people from different backgrounds and personal differences has been both challenging and extremely rewarding. Why do some Christians seem to need a stereotypical enemy, bogeyman, or group caricature who represents everything that is wrong with the world? Perhaps some Christians, seeing themselves as Christ's representatives on earth, need a group to target as Satan's representatives. Perhaps they also secretly fear that they themselves are not good enough for God, that they themselves deserve to be punished in hell, that God does not really love them, or that they cannot not count on such love since they probably don't deserve it. This fear can lead them to project this view of themselves as bad and unworthy onto a group of demonized others. Such people do not seem to believe that Divine Love is unconditional, that it is not necessary for anyone to deserve it, that Divine Grace, like rain, falls on the just as well as the unjust - and therefore they do not cannot trust the warranty. of Divine Love almost as much as they rely on the certainty of Divine Judgment. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s and the nuclear arms race effectively stalled, new enemies have taken the place of communist demons, including feminists, Muslims, Pagans and gays. Unfortunately, the drama is being rewritten, including impressive flourishes depicting earthquakes and hurricanes as expressions of God's wrath over the presence of homosexuals in American society. In reference to the supposed biblical prohibitions against homosexuality, any reader of the Bible knows that theft is also condemned in the Bible; but you never see militant religious believers carrying signs saying God hates looters, however, you see them with signs saying God hates gays... middle of paper ......n just by being born human (as if any of us had any say in the matter). Today's society must realize that it cannot earn Divine Love and Grace because there is no NEED to earn such things; and certainly cannot gain Divine Love or approval by hurting others. Divine Grace and Love are not transactions that must be paid for. Society also needs to understand how much it has hurt people by projecting its own insecurities and inner demons onto them, stop behaving this way and learn to know as people the very people society is calling " undesirableā. Many also have a deep need for spiritual healing. Some need to spend more time observing the life of the natural world and accepting that we were created with joy in life and that this can take many forms that were not understood by the authors of the texts religious several thousand years ago.
