In 1986, Ronald Regan passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act, which forever changed the issue of illegal immigration. This bill required "legalization of all undocumented aliens who have been continuously present illegally since 1982, legalization of certain agricultural workers, penalties for employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers, and increased surveillance at U.S. borders" ( United States Citizenship and Immigration Services). Amnesty is a delicate subject. Politicians change their minds on amnesty quite frequently. Amnesty (especially immigration amnesty) involves granting a person legal status present illegally in the country, allowing them to work and live in the country (Spalding). As the recent presidential debates have shown, this is a very controversial and hotly discussed issue. Many people are familiar with this problem with Donald Trump's wall concept. Illegal immigration has placed a burden on the United States, and illegal immigrants should not receive amnesty. The reasons against illegal immigration and amnesty are endless, but there are a few that stand out. One of the main burdens associated with illegal immigration is said to be the economic burden it imposes. Economically, there are many different aspects to how illegal immigrants accumulate debt. For starters, there's just the general benefits they receive, minus taxes, and it adds up.
