Essay / Is concealed carry good for Illinois? - 682
There are many factors why concealed carry is good for Illinois. Too many innocent people are being robbed; People should be allowed to defend themselves against any danger. Before the law was passed, a person was only allowed to transport items to their home. Even if a person legally owned a gun, if they were caught outside their home with a gun, they could face jail time. Locking a gun in a holster, unloaded, disassembled, and placing the holster in the trunk of a car was the only way a person could be allowed to transport a gun. Not everyone can get a concealed carry permit, it's not as easy as people think. The state of Illinois doesn't just hand them out like candy. A person must first have a FOID card. A person is not eligible to obtain one if they have a felony conviction; never been convicted of domestic battery or domestic violence; or if a person is the subject of a protection order. If a person has a FOID card, they must now complete a 16-hour firearms training course and pass the test. I think people should have at least 40 hours of firearms training. If a thief knows a person is carrying a gun, would a thief attempt to rob that person? Before a thief wants to rob someone of their valuables, he needs to think twice. No one knows who can carry a gun now; grandmother goes to the store; mom or dad goes to work; brother goes to the game. I think fewer armed robberies will take place from now on. Additionally, gangs in Chicago are a difficult problem right now. People might think that just because they're not part of a gang, they don't have to worry about getting shot. Wearing a hat tipped the wrong way in some neighborhoods can attract the attention of gangs. The gang was approaching a piece of paper......inside. I grabbed my shotgun, opened the door and told them "there's nothing here worth dying for", they then apologized and ran away. I don't know what would have happened if I didn't have a gun, but I can say that I refuse to be a victim. In conclusion, I hope I can reach more people who are opposed to guns. Maybe more people would change their minds if the problems came closer to home. With all the violence in Chicago, even in the neighborhood where I live. We must be able to protect ourselves. I will not run, hide, or walk away because of gun violence. Guns don't hurt people, just like pencils don't make mistakes, it takes a person to act. I convinced my girlfriend that concealed carry is not only good for Illinois, but also for our family. Now I hope I can change other people's minds or at least release their hatred towards guns..
