Essay / Aniaml Farm - 809
George Orwell explores the positives and negatives of hard work and dedication in his book “Animal Farm”. The hardest working character in this book, none other than Boxer, has become increasingly weak because of his hard work and dedication, and without thinking, he doesn't realize that he needs to stop working. . Hard workers without a plan are not always expected to succeed. They may have been successful in their youth, but once you reach an older age, you are no longer able to do the things you would have done years ago. Hard workers like Boxer soon die from overwork and over-dedication rather than retreat from whatever hardships the other farm animals might face. Through “I will work harder,” Orwell suggests that hard work and dedication, without intelligence, leads to failure. Boxer works hard by not allowing his injured hoof to get in the way of rebuilding the windmill. He always dedicates time to work and never gives up on something until it is finished. Boxer doesn't care about the obstacles that get in the way of his work, he will climb that mountain and accomplish whatever work he has to do. He may have split his hoof, but he was treated with antibiotics and continued to work every day. He didn't care about the agony he was in, he just kept working. He was not being intelligent in doing this, because he never actually healed his hoof. His hard work without intelligence would lead to a devastating downfall. “In such moments you could see his lips forming the words, I will work harder, he no longer had a voice” (page 111). The boxer is an unintelligent and overworked animal according to Orwell's description. When Boxer “had no more voice” shows an overworked and mistreated animal. An animal that no longer has life ...... middle of paper ...... tion, without intelligence, can lead to failure. Boxer's motto illustrates that hard work and dedication without planning and intelligence will sometimes lead to failure. People who spend all their time working hard without a plan will always fail, because working hard on the wrong things does not guarantee success. Working hard with intelligence and a plan will always guarantee success. Take for example the beginnings of Twitter. Engineers worked hard to develop the software; however, they did not plan properly for the increase in web traffic, which made the site quite unavailable. If they had worked hard and smart, they would have planned for the increase and not had so many problems in the beginning. In the case of Boxer and other overworked workers, hard work and mindless dedication will lead to a permanent end..
