Essay / What you pawn, you will exchange Summary - 1097
A good example of pictures can be found at the end of the story in the last paragraph. For this part of the imagery, the main character Jackson Jackson received his grandmother's regalia from the pawn shop employee without having to pay the total of $999 that he was originally required to pay. (Alexie) “I took my grandmother's badges and went out. I knew this lonely yellow pearl was a part of me. I knew I was part of this yellow pearl. Outside, I wrapped myself in my grandmother's regalia and breathed her in. I left the sidewalk and headed toward the intersection. The pedestrians stopped. The cars stopped. The city stopped. They all watched me dance with my grandmother. I was my grandmother, I danced. This statement made at the end of the story indicates a strong sense of imagery that details Jackson's emotions about obtaining his grandmother's regalia at the pawn shop. The yellow pearl he mentions was the strongest symbol of his feelings towards his grandmother, feeling as if he was a part of that yellow pearl, in this case, his grandmother. Jackson further describes how he felt more like his grandmother after wrapping the regalia around him. The pedestrians, the city, everything around him watched him feel like his grandmother, like some kind of flashback that he could be.
