Essay / Ethics Video Document: Conformity Bias and Fundamentals...
When considering business ethics, it is important to consider ethics in general. Two important subthemes within ethics are the dangers of conformity bias and the threats imposed by fundamental attribution error. On the "Ethics Unwrapped" site, two videos, each relating to and named after one of the previously mentioned topics, are useful for gaining knowledge on the subject of these two topics and the potential ethical dilemmas they create. I think it's important to discuss these two topics because everyone, especially those working in business environments, falls prey to these two concepts more often than other business-related subtopics. ethics. The first video, "Fundamental Attribution Error", talks about the ethical problem of the same name. The fundamental attribution error (hereafter referred to as FAE) occurs when we attribute and emphasize the behaviors of others based solely on their character rather than situational factors or the environment around them. However, within the framework of the FAE, we believe that, in identical circumstances, we committed the same act for completely personal reasons. In the video, many examples are cited. Let's say we have two people, yourself and Marty McFly (who coincidentally shares the name of the protagonist of Back to the Future but is not otherwise related). You find out Marty cheated on his wife and automatically assume it's because he's a terrible, horrible human being. However, you are also cheating on your wife, but you tell yourself it's because you had one or more drinks at the bar last night. You also find out that Marty has been "faking" or falsifying numbers and accounts at his workplace and think it's because he's some kind of... middle of paper ... corrected. As such, I give it five stars out of five due to its importance and relevance to the real world, and it's a video not to be missed. The fundamental attribution error video is also important but not as important as the previous one on CB. FAEs will not necessarily result in the death of others (although they sometimes can in extreme cases) and mainly affect daily activities rather than national or international concerns, and actually have more to do with "I can do it because I am an extraordinary person. whereas this other guy is probably a crazy monster" and as such he doesn't tend to do too much physical harm to others. Although this is a problem, it can be fixed more easily than the old CB. I give it four out of five because, although it is important to consider in daily activities and can also be applied in the real world, it does not have as serious consequences as CB..
