  • Essay / Movie Analysis: Crash - 1395

In life, many people are hurt or "damaged" and must find a way to heal. The characters in the movie "Crash" suffered a lot of injuries and some realized they didn't even know they were injured due to a major event. One character I noticed who was "damaged" was Daniel's (the locksmith) daughter. You first see the little girl when her father comes home and she hides under the bed. She tells her father that she is scared and that she heard a big bag. Her father asked her like a truck and she replied, "Like a gun." The little girl was scared because she lived in a neighborhood where there were a lot of gunshots and one of the bullets went into your bedroom window. Even though his father told him "it's funny, because we left this bad neighborhood." So, to help him feel safe, his father told him about a fairy who came into his room at a very young age and gave him this invisible cloak. The cloak was around his neck and it was impenetrable. Impenetrable means nothing can hurt him, even a bullet. So he took the invisible cloak and tied it around his daughter's neck so that she would know that nothing could harm her. The little girl believed and began to heal. You see this at the end of the film when his father is held up at gunpoint in their front yard. She screams at her mother and says "he doesn't have it…..I have it…He doesn't have the impenetrable cloak!" She runs to her father in his arms and you see the gun go off thinking that the little girl was shot, however the little girl was not shot (because of the white bullets) but she helps him to heal in his fear of bullets to save his father's life. Another character who was shown to be "damaged" was Agent Ryan....... middle of paper ...... gave in, but that the door is broken and needed to be repaired. I think maybe the locksmith's daughter should have gotten counseling because of her fear of bullets. Yes, the father helped her cope with the situation by telling her the story of an invisible cloak, but the situation where she was running to save her father could have ended tragically. Advice to Detective Waters and his family. One of them would be family counseling so that everyone can manage their feelings and not hurt each other with their words. Detective Waters' mother needed rehab to combat her drug addiction. However, counseling and education programs can help, but until we as a society take the time to understand the roots of discrimination and bias and examine our actions in how we treat people, we will never move forward and create a better world for everyone.
