School violence has become a very popular issue these days. From tragic school shootings to unexpected stabbings, the safety of every school is at risk. From the Columbine High School shooting in 1999 to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 and the recent stabbings in April, school violence has not diminished. The time to act is now, because if action is not taken, these problems will persist. Before school violence becomes too common among students and intruders, restrictions and plans need to be implemented now. School shootings have been a crime for some time, but over the past three years they have unfortunately become a more common problem. On April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, a shooting occurred ("Columbine"). This shooting was done by two teenagers who attended Columbine. The teens' reasoning behind this crime was because they were harassed by students at Columbine High School. This was a very tragic event for Columbine High School. With 13 people killed and 20 injured, it left its mark on the community. After this shooting, the two teenagers committed suicide. School shootings are a very serious problem, and for years after shootings like Columbine, the atmosphere of the school as well as the community is damaged. The Columbine High School shooting is considered the worst mass shooting in U.S. history (“Columbine”). Schools never fully recover from tragic events like school shootings; however, more prevention can be done to reduce the risk of school shootings. In the town of Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14, 2012, another very tragic school shooting occurred.
