Essay / The Good, the Bad and Scouse by Toxteth TV
The project I decided to undertake was 'The Good, the Bad and Scouse'. It is managed by Toxteth TV. The project is about a story of characters who have graced the streets of Liverpool, mainly around the Toxteth area. I have carried out extensive research into telling the stories of local 'scousers' which have remained untold since 1850. I have revealed some of Toxteth's hidden heritage and brought it to life in creative and interactive ways, for example using the British Newspaper Archive database at Liverpool Central Library. The reason I used the online British newspaper archives is very relevant to the time period I explored because in the 1850s newspapers were very popular and this can be recognized as stamp duty on newspapers which was removed in 1855. As newspapers were booming during this period, using them as a research method was essential for this project. The twenty-five most interesting stories will be voted on by the public and eight of the most popular stories will then be transformed into animations. I worked closely with Toxteth TV from March to mid-April to help uncover the stories of Toxteth's many colorful characters. For the past middle of paper......in the simple future, think about us and how we had lived? From benefactors to criminals, including your kind souls. All of this adorned the streets of Toxteth over a century and a half ago. Without historical newspaper records, we would not know what kind of individuals lived in the neighborhood and their stories would have been lost forever..
