Essay / Importance of a career as a pharmacist - 708
Curious about how medications work, I always ask why when I am given a treatment. Without health insurance, my family relied on cheap over-the-counter medications because a visit to the doctor was difficult to afford. The different medications for my recurrent tonsil infections got me thinking about their purpose. I wish there was someone who could tell us if we were taking the right medications. My determination to become that person to help those who have difficulty accessing health care sparked my desire for higher education. Amazed by the science lessons, I wanted to move forward and put my knowledge to good use. My desire to learn more about medications and apply that knowledge to help others use medications effectively led me to pursue a career in pharmacy. Without guidance, I made my career in pharmacy possible while completing my undergraduate studies. My involvement in research projects on DNA repair mechanisms was due to my persistence in understanding theories beyond the laboratory. Likewise, I believed in the need to fully understand the profession of pharmacist by participating in related activities. By interpreting for pharmacy students who were helping underserved older adults select, I hope to gain experience in infectious diseases and oncology, as patients in these categories are the most sensitive and require the most attention. As a medication expert and the final red light to guide effective medication delivery, I hope to develop positive relationships with diverse patients and the healthcare team to better serve the goal of fighting disease. Additionally, in addition to using my strong experience to advise patients on medications and help them access better health care in underserved communities at home and abroad, I hope to inspire my fellow pharmacists to do the same work.
