  • Essay / Foreign Aid Essay - 631

Foreign aid is financial assistance given by one country to another for the purpose of economic stabilization, poverty and standard of living. This essay will expand on the question of the need to spend money on foreign aid. There are three premises supporting the main conclusion: the first reason is that aid saves lives, while the premises that aid improves education and aid reduces the poverty rate can all both be objected and refuted. Furthermore, two objections can be refuted. The first reason to think that foreign aid should be spent is that "aid saves lives", which is clearly illustrated by the research conducted. Compare 1990 to 2010, thanks to vaccine and health assistance, there was a decrease in the number of children dying from pneumonia and diarrhea (BBC). For example, in Botswana, the foreign aid fund provided HIV testing to pregnant women and thus reduced the number of newborns contracting HIV. Furthermore, in Bangladesh, the mortality rate of children under five has fallen by 62%, the aid fund allows the government to be able to afford “vaccines and train midwives”. The second reason to think that foreign aid should be spent is that it improves the quantity and quality of education in terms of learning environment and data, which is clearly illustrated by the increase in enrollment (Recom). More than 50 million children have been educated in the last ten years (BBC). For example, in Malawi, following the disbursement of aid for education, the primary school enrollment rate increased dramatically to 66% in 2010 from only 22% in 1975. .On the other hand, a consideration against this idea indicates that aid for education is ineffective...... middle of paper ...... aid is ineffective and lavish because most of Funds from foreign aid programs flow to an irresponsible government, mismanagement of funds and embezzlement render the aid program useless (BBC). However, this objection is not convincing because nothing is perfect, politicians continue to work hard to make the aid program more effective because regular reports are produced on the effectiveness of foreign aid programs and therefore exercise pressure. on these government decision-makers. (BBC)Based on the reasoning above, the clear conclusion from this analysis is that we should spend money on foreign aid. Aid is useful because it saves lives, although aid is sometimes ineffective in improving education levels and eliminating poverty rates, but aid is necessary for the government to work on these issues..
