Essay / My desire to be a good teacher
Everyone has their own reasons for choosing a specific profession. My reasons are similar to the ones you read today, but they are not. I chose teaching as a profession not for common reasons; I like children, I want a summer vacation or anything like that. I chose teaching because I had a teacher who believed in me and who made me believe in myself. Who actually changed my life and saved me. I want to be able to be that support for this child. So they know they have a purpose. I was shown when this teacher changed my life. Mrs. Watson was her name. She was my resource teacher in 6th grade. In fifth grade, I was diagnosed with a learning disability and dyslexia. Afterwards, I was able to play on a large scale. I was in fifth grade reading at a third grade level. So when I started 6th grade, I was asked for help once or twice a day. Ms. Watson and my mother even talked about my plans to put in extra time after school to get even more help. She spent hours after school helping. Ms. Watson sat with me and helped me mainly with my reading and English. She was so calm with me when I was frustrated or wanted to give up. I went through a very difficult time, but Mrs. Watson kept telling me, “I could overcome anything if I put my mind to it.” » Over the next two years, I was able to raise my reading level to an 8th grade level. Also, mastering my dyslexia. Little by little, I was able to spend less time in his class. I was then able to enter high school under an IEP plan and place myself in the technical track to graduate. But because of his words, I never used it. I graduated from college with honors. Mrs. Watson was even there to watch me walk when I graduated. She told me, “With that hard work and belief in myself, I could get myself to where I wanted to go.” » I didn't really realize how right she was until college. Even at university, I didn't get a disability plan, because I wanted to know that I could do it on my own. All this by myself! For now, I've done it. Yes, I may have had to speak English 1101, but I did it myself. I may not have gotten the best grades in some classes either. Regardless, it was the best feeling I could have ever had. Knowing now that I'm getting closer and closer to the goal makes me realize how right she was. I wonder what I would be doing right now if Ms. Watson hadn't played such an important role in my young life. Would I have even made it to college or high school? Gainesville State has given me many opportunities to connect with people from all over. I have never seen and met so many different people, all from different backgrounds. This allows me to have a new experience every day at school. Another area that would make me a good teacher is that I am caring and thoughtful in everything I do. Whether at work or in my social life. I think the only way to grow is to be able to think through the situations presented to you. You also need to allow others to think about what you are doing as well. Their opinion will help you become the individual you are meant to be. Once you do this, you can grow and mature to be better prepared for the future. A person should care about everything they do, but some people don't. I still care. If you don't care about what you're doing, you don't need to do that specific thing anymore. I care about the things I do. I think if you can't give it your all, don't waste other people's time and money. I want people to be able to tell that she truly cares about our future children and what they are doing. Teachers and staff who know my name are very welcoming when you enter a classroom. Another quality that would make me a great teacher is that I am committed to the learning of all students. I am very committed to everything I do. I've been working since I was fifteen, but I've only had 3 jobs. In every job I've had, I've worked for over six years and some even longer. I give my all, even in class. There is a way to reach every student. I may have to dig really deep to figure out how to reach students. I would spend the extra time finding the best way to reach all of my students. If that meant redoing all the lesson plans, so be it. But if I put in the time and effort, there is a way to reach every student in every classroom. It may take me a little more time to find the best solution. Gainesville State is the perfect place for that. I struggled with Spanish and my teacher went out of his way to make sure I understood the material on the test. I have also noticed this with other students in other classes. One of the best ways to do this is to balance the content of teaching. In my opinion, it's fun. I feel like students learn more when they enjoy the material. Whether it’s relating it to their lives or learning while having fun. I always try to balance my actions between; work, school, family, friends and life. I would be able to balance the curriculum information that students are expected to learn each year with the fun that students also need. As a teacher, I think you should be able to make anything fun. For example, math can be a fun learning experience no matter what you're trying to teach. When students learn to add, it doesn't always have to be on paper with numbers.
