  • Essay / Is internet censorship really a good idea? - 3018

After the Internet became accessible to the new generation, great concerns arose about its substantial and beneficial use. As soon as the Internet became popular among the population, it became controversial. Many questions have been debated regarding Internet use, particularly the measurement of what is appropriate and inappropriate, what is accessible and what is not. As the questions piled up and the problems became more and more pervasive, the government, alarmed by the Internet threat and its technicalities, came up with a protocol that was definitely good and also uniquely bad. This protocol was the controversial term for Internet censorship. The question that has been debated for the start of this new implementation, especially in countries that rely heavily on Internet access and commodities, is: Is Internet censorship really a good idea? Did it actually bring change and safety to people as they exposed themselves to the imminent threats of internet browsing and other activities? What about hindered freedom of expression? Did the benefits outweigh the risks in this particular situation? Was the government right from the start when it implemented this internet censorship? One could think of too many questions, but apparently these are the truths about internet censorship and the fact that it is the most controversial measure the government has decided to counter and protect people from harm of the Internet as the newest form of communication media (Zuchora- Walske, 2010, p. 2). Internet censorship has taken many forms as the new generation has progressed – being more tech-savvy and savvy than ever . From just normal filtering of searches in the middle of paper to progress and modernization. At the same time, many others have abused and taken advantage of the benefits of this new innovation in unpleasant ways. We can't stop this from happening, but we can do something. This is why the government has decided to implement and regulate Internet censorship policies. Instead of being angry and indifferent about this new policy, we should be more open-minded and welcome the goodness and safety that this particular policy brings us. The real truth is that internet censorship goes far beyond what we have understood. This goes well beyond the limits of freedom and rights. It is a protector and safeguard that defends the dignity and integrity of the State. It is up to citizens to think and decide whether internet censorship is for our good or not. This is our will, just like what the government has said on this subject..
