Essay / The future development of health care and the challenges in...
I heard a conversation at a seminar organized by the Austin Forum. At that time, one of the leaders of Dell Medical School, Maninder Kahlon, PhD, explained the following example. One of the cancer drugs came in one-size bottles, so the cancer patient's entire body, whether large or small, will receive the same drug. Doctors may adjust the dosage, sometimes using a third or a quarter of these drugs and discarding the rest. This continues to happen every year and the waste is estimated to be worth a billion dollars a year, but no one is doing anything about it. Doctors did not care enough about medications. Patients never knew if the medications they purchased had been thrown away. Even if they knew, they wouldn't really care because their bills are paid by an insurance company and the government. The distributor has never received a complaint and continues to receive a significant profit. The result of all this is increased budgetary spending on health. Surprisingly, the government initially viewed this as favorable because it ensured good health for its citizens. However, the facts say the opposite: According to the data, the health of Americans is not improving. This waste of money leads to inefficiency. This is where health care reforms need to be renewed. We can't fix just one side of the problem because it won't satisfy all parties. THE
