(IV.vi.19-23) The relationship between Katherine and Petruchio has changed throughout the different adaptations of The Taming of the Shrew. Things like the motivations for interaction, even the role of love, have changed. These differences between these adaptations were not an error but were intended to appeal to varied audiences. The Renaissance may have been an era filled with revolutionary concepts, but people of that era still viewed women as mere property. This milieu formed Taming of the Shrew, a play about an outspoken Katherina who is tamed into a “good wife” by Petruchio. “She [the Good Wife] is the eye of distrust, the hand of work and the heart of love, a companion of kindness, a Mistress of Passion, an exercise of Patience and an example of experience.
