  • Essay / Capitalism in America - 1274

The Corruption of Capitalism in the United StatesOften, Americans do not realize the corruption that surrounds them in their nation. Capitalism is an economic and political system in which the country's commerce and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state. Business owners, CEOs, corporations, and large corporations tend to take extreme advantage of the power that capitalism brings. For decades, businesses and corporations have inexplicably taken advantage of the power they wield. Capitalism in the United States leads to corruption. The meat processing industry in the United States is one of the leading industries that exemplifies corruption reaching new heights. According to the article “The Corrupt U.S. Food Industry Is Too Powerful,” the meat processing industry gets far more power than it should. Americans have the right to know what process the meat they eat goes through to keep it in their refrigerator. The American people should have the right to know what kinds of cruel hardships come into play when it comes to the meat industry. The largest meatpacking industries make their money by slaughtering animals and harming living things behind closed doors. “Welcome to the land of the free, where we value money over clean resources and human and animal welfare” (Ray1) is used to demonstrate how the meat processing industry operates in the United States (1). America will fall into an era of no economic benefit and extreme political conflict, ruining any chance of economic growth (Greenwhich1). Americans have made a “resolution” to borrow money to pay off their debt. This also comes into play as gas causes Americans to stop saving everything they've earned and start spending both what they receive and what they borrow. These “resolutions” have brought Americans to a final phase of crisis. This then leads to the demands of corrupt capitalism (3). The United States has a corrupt system of money-hungry corporations that care little, if any, about the American people and what they offer them. This capitalist society has led a nation into a time of great corruption. Corruption in places we never thought we'd look, but we see it right before our eyes.
