  • Essay / Different Interpretation of the 2nd Amendment on Firearms...

Gun control policies regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession and use of firearms. In the United States, the issue of gun control has been a hot topic for many years. The Second Amendment to the Constitution “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms” means that individuals can own guns, not just the police and military; Democratic lawmakers say that may not be how the amendment was intended to be interpreted. One of the problems of this question is to determine the rights of the people as they were intended by our ancestors. Since 1791, Americans have had the right to keep and bear arms, but misuse and illegal acts by criminals have brought this right under fire. In January 2004, three authors reprinted and analyzed dozens of Supreme Court rulings referring to the Second Amendment. Their conclusion? "These cases suggest that Supreme Court justices now view and generally have viewed the Second Amendment 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms' as an individual right, rather than a right of state governments." (Kopel, 2014) All across America, people are trying to make life safer, then the latest massacre happens and we say “this is America.” Would a ban on firearms for the public reduce the number of gun deaths and provide greater safety for the public? Do we need tighter restrictions on gun ownership? “The best time to communicate is when worry and emotions are at their peak. » “The debate over gun violence in America is periodically punctuated by high-profile incidents of gun violence, including at Columbine, Virginia Tech, Tucson, the killing of Trayvon Martin, Aurora and Oak Creek. When an incident like this attracts sustained media attention, it creates a unique press climate compared to those with weak or no gun regulations (Snyder, 2014). Guns don't kill, just like pencils don't fail tests, cars don't cause drunk drivers. In all of these examples, it is obvious that the object is just that, an object that in some cases is used to harm someone, just as a car is the object used in a driving accident in drunkenness. When put in the hands of people who make poor decisions, these items become dangerous and deadly. Criminals who commit such acts are exactly that: criminals. They are breaking the law when they choose to shoot someone. Taking away their right to own a gun won't stop them. They will continue to break the law and obtain guns illegally. I've never heard of a criminal stating, "I was planning to shoot someone next week, then I realized it was illegal to own a gun, so I guess that it is forbidden.!”
