Essentialism and Social ReconstructionThe field of study that I have chosen to study is elementary education. For the past two summers, I have participated in the AmeriCorps Energy Express program and I can honestly say that the experiences I have with this program are very enlightening and valuable to my ideas and conceptions about being an educator. Thanks to Energy Express, I developed my own theory. Every mind always seeks to place its boundaries and limits around that which it does not fully understand. It seems like all concepts and ideas need to be placed in this little box for everyone else to understand and follow. The same goes for educational philosophies. There are countless ways educators teach their students, however, six of them have been singled out and dissected to death. Like most other education students regarding their philosophies, I too cannot find a single one that encompasses all of my beliefs and desires to teach my future students. Once settled into my teaching career, I plan to continue my education by obtaining my master's degree in education. The only reason I see myself pursuing my master's degree is the increased competition, many educators have already obtained or are in the process of obtaining theirs. I believe that once I set my teaching standards, I will not let any further training make me feel like I am above my students. For them to learn, I can never be above them. Teaching is the simple task of transmitting knowledge to others. What I can do as a teacher is help my students walk away knowing that anything can be learned and anything can be accomplished. If the desire to learn and work for something is evident, any task can be challenged and overcome..
