Essay / Influence of media on adolescents and adolescents
Literature reviewInfluence of media on adolescentsThe stage of adolescence needs to be the subject of research, as preliminary research suggests that at the stage of During adolescence, important social aspects are noticed and shaped, particularly through the media, while reliance on family for social information or influence diminishes (Arnett, 1995). In researching the effects of media on adolescents' views on relationships, one must first investigate whether researchers have already studied and answered whether media has any relationship or effect on adolescents. In research on the influence of media on adolescents, it has been found that there are five uses of media by adolescents, namely entertainment, thrill, coping, identity formation and l identification of youth culture (the latter two uses will be highlighted later in this article). ) (Arnett, 1995). Thus, adolescents' use of media for various purposes has been evident and established for some time. Additionally, research suggests that American adolescents spend six to seven hours per day using media, half of which is spent on television and movies (L'Engle, Brown, & Kenneavy, 2006). Additionally, numerous studies have shown that high television and movie consumption is positively correlated with effects on an individual's beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions (Shrum, Wyer, & O'Guinn, 2009). Professor and researcher Dr. George Gerbner invented and introduced cultivation theory into this communicative conversation. Cultural theory is defined as “the independent contributions that television and film viewing make to the viewer's conceptions of social reality” (Gerbner, 1998). Cultivation theory describes and has both built a platform for research in this area and proven that I...... middle of article...... examined the transcripts of survey after each session, then reviewed and analyzed the transcripts. As I examined the transcripts, I was able to find recurring responses and wildly different responses, responses that were extremely important for analyzing the gender portion of my research. After reviewing the transcripts, I therefore categorized and reported my findings based on my research questions, using a deductive approach. That is, once the data was grouped, I looked for similarities and differences in order to answer my research questions and test my hypothesis. I used the interview notes and transcripts to develop definitions for each category and narrative theme. I will then code the 6 interviews according to the definitions obtained. Additionally, in conducting this research, I discovered and noted suggestions for further research in this conversation..
