Essay / Ethical dilemma commonly experienced in the arts and...
When one begins to discuss the proposed question, one must first possess a valid definition of ethics in order to determine the factors of a situation which 'report there. Ethics are, in a way, the “rules” that define what is acceptable or not acceptable in a society, based on fundamental values and beliefs that the society considers to be true (Ethics vs. Morality). Therefore, with respect to the proposed question, an ethical judgment is simply a judgment based on the ethics of a situation. The majority of well-known ethical judgments throughout society have occurred when a “rule” is violated or blatantly ignored. Throughout world history, ethics have continually shaped people's opinions and influenced the actions they take. Our ethical judgments are based on our intuitions of right and wrong and ultimately form rules based on society's collective values and what is considered the status quo. If these ethical standards are not respected, a person or group may face disapproval or rejection from those around them. Although each situation or approach to the natural sciences and arts is somewhat unique, the ethical judgments we make will inevitably impose limits on the knowledge production that is possible in each of these situations. science is a much more common phenomenon than in the arts due to the demanding and ongoing research in almost all areas of this study. As humans, we possess a kind of impulse to greatly deepen our knowledge and understanding in areas that concern us and those that deal with aspects of human life, because of the possible effect that each individual situation may have on us. Scientists will go to great lengths in...... middle of article...... Although through the examples above I have explained how ethical judgments can limit the methods available in production knowledge, it is important to remain open to the fact that these ethical judgments will differ from one society to another due to differences in societal values and beliefs. For example, in a Middle Eastern country, it may be acceptable, or even expected, to kill one's wife for committing infidelity in a marriage. One would think that this restores the family honor after a shameful act on the part of the wife. However, in the United States, if a husband did this, regardless of his wife's actions or beliefs, he would automatically be tried for murder for his wrongdoing. So, even though the proposed question has been discussed, we must be open-minded to the fact that each situation and location we find ourselves in will play a significant role on our beliefs..
