There are fewer people who are persuaded by these television advertisements to start smoking for the first time. Companies don't tell them their cigarettes are cool and glamorous. The ban on advertising has prevented today's youth from being encouraged to experiment with cigarettes. In turn, this led to a decrease in the number of deaths attributed to smoking among men and women for the first time in U.S. history. There is still much to be done to reduce these figures further, but the ban on cigarette advertising on television has had a huge impact in reducing the number of people smoking, particularly among children and young people.
