Benefits of Expanding Women's Roles in the MilitaryOn the other hand, the need for women to participate in combat roles is a benefit for expanding roles women in the army. Segal says it herself: the integration of women into the army in times of war was a necessity. Since the army desperately needed more personnel during World War I, it had to allow women to enlist. For women, this was the first time there was widespread inclusion of women due to a labor shortage. The advantage for women in this example is that since there was a need to expand women's roles in the military, women are offered many new opportunities that would not have been offered. Another advantage of allowing the integration of women into the army is that this is justice; it is only fair that both sexes are allowed to fight for their country. According to Yael Kidron, it is "right to allow women to take on physically demanding military roles" and says that women have proven that they are equal in the military because "basically, you do everything like men: you work hard.” It is absolutely fair to everyone that women are expected to perform the same tasks as men. On the positive side, both genders can work cohesively thanks to changes in the military. Kidron says women are not an equal part of the support group alongside men. In addition, Lieutenant-Colonel Jennie Carignan says that the men under her command respect her, because just like a man, she had to earn her place. It is therefore fair and equitable that women have the same opportunities as men in the army. One of the benefits of expanding the role of women in the military is that currently there is less paper. ......ConclusionThroughout our extensive reading over the semester, many articles address the question of whether expanding the role of women in the military benefits or hinders military advancement. The debate between the readings was quite balanced. Historically, the social construction of gender, interference in family life, having proven themselves strong enough for military life, and the argument of responsibility have played an important role in the debate. Fortunately, these arguments pale in comparison to the benefits of having women in the military. Women want to be in the military, they are not drafted, women were given opportunities for advancement because they were needed in war, they bring new intelligence and peacekeeping services, and what's more, being in the army is only fair and allows for their own progression.
