    However, that being said, the reality of how my company executed the psychological contract also prompted some adjustments on my part. Needless to say, my motivation to perform has seriously diminished. Not necessarily because I didn't get a raise, but because I gave more than what was asked and received absolutely nothing more in return. Well, I got some advice on how to exceed expectations. This advice made me not want to do more. For the first time in my life, I decided that mediocrity was fine, because this company was looking for blood, sweat, and tears and they didn't feel the need to fairly compensate anything less than those three elements. This concept of blood, sweat and tears is not healthy and certainly does not promote work-life balance. Gallo (2013) states that organizations that break the psychological contract and do not effectively communicate valid reasons for this break can decrease their employees' motivation to perform tasks that would be helpful in meeting organizational expectations..
