Essay / Censorship is the prohibition of communication - 872
CensorshipOne of the most despised feelings an individual can endure is knowing that the truth has been hidden from you. Many countries around the world hide reality from their citizens. Although it may be intentional at first, this act manipulates a population with lies. Censorship is the banning of any kind of communication (e.g. literature) that is considered harmful or obscene by the government for a certain population (Gilc). This may allow a country to evolve in the short term but this evolution will be very superficial and will not last long. Every individual has the right to see what they want and this right must not be violated. When censorship takes place, the government limits general knowledge of a country. Some may say that it is for the good of the population, but that only protects people from reality. Censorship should not be used because it is not sustainable due to its superficiality. A country may boast of its overall development, but how it achieves this is often hidden from the public eye. Economic growth is one of the many components taken into account in calculating the development of a country; Singapore excels in this criterion. Unfortunately, this is not the key to long-term growth. The economy is changing rapidly and a slight mistake could land Singapore deep in debt. Singapore is the perfect example of a country where its success is extremely superficial. Few people know how much information is hidden by the government. This country may seem like a great place to live due to its reliable security or supportive education system, but this often leads to overprotection of the younger population and when they move to other countries they find themselves overwhelmed ...... middle of paper ......g to reveal the truth in fear that its citizens will begin to have negative views of their ideologies and motivations. The government would not do this if it had full confidence in its actions. If they had a clear conscience, they wouldn't have to worry about the information being published because they know that what they are actually doing is well intentioned. Overall, censorship should never have been a consideration and is neither the ethical nor the right way to lead. a country because of its lack of integrity. History has shown that this type of path is very superficial and unsustainable. This unsustainability is caused by a lack of integrity and an inability of the government to manage its citizens with trust and respect. They are forced to manipulate their population while hiding reality and forcing citizens to live with lies..
