Students should not be allowed to drop out before the age of 18 (Schragel). Most students who drop out of school before the age of 18 are mostly struggling students. They have no interest in graduating and act like clowns so everyone else can suffer with them. Students themselves make bad decisions. They find themselves in situations they can't get out of and don't know how to handle them. They have no one to turn to after burning so many bridges, so they may abandon what they want to do to forget everything altogether. Honestly, I don't think students under the age of 18 should have the choice to drop out because it won't get them where they want to go. No one should be able to drop out of school, they will need their education. They get involved in gangs, drink alcohol/drugs, get pregnant, and even commit crimes (Schragel). Students get so involved in their lives that they never have time to focus on school or maybe they just don't care. They get drunk all the time, get high all the time, suffer brain damage, and forget who they are and why they live. Most become pregnant and begin to feel like they no longer want to go to school so they can care for their baby. Or maybe they don't have anyone to help them care for the baby and so feel like they have no choice but to give up. Juveniles also hang out with the “cool” crowd at school and deal with drugs and commit crimes left and right. Some suffered serious illnesses and missed too many days of school and were told they would be held back (Schragel).
