The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a story about Amir's life and everything that happens. Amir's father, Baba, is a very wealthy man and well-liked in the community. One of the perks of being rich in Kabul is having servants who work for them. Baba's servant in the book is Hassan. Amir and Hassan are still together until tragedy strikes them both. This tears the family apart because they were all very close. Hassan and Amir have always treated each other like brothers. Hassan would do anything for Amir. When Amir was bullied, Hassan would always step in and defend him. For example, Hassan says to Amir: “A thousand more times for you” (Hosseini 67). This shows that Hassan would do anything for Amir no matter how many times he asks him. Not only did Amir play with Hassan like a brother. Baba treated Hassan like a son, but this made Amir jealous. “Nothing was free in this world. Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to kill to win Baba” (Hosseini 77).
