Government systems play a vital role in maintaining a social environment, but the enormous power of the elite can weaken the majority population and the lead to a substandard lifestyle. The abuse of power is visible in George Orwell's political fiction, 1984, as well as in the Chinese Communist Party led by Mao Zedong. Both of these governmental systems use their superiority to control everyone's way of life, whether it is a destiny of misery or total submission. The main tactics shared by the Party and Chairman Mao are targeting children to fight for them, destroying information that may lead society to an undesirable way of thinking, and forcibly unifying the population. Through tactical approaches targeting people's lifestyles, totalitarian governments break the will of individuals, leading to a constant feeling of powerlessness. The powerless population serves as fuel to strengthen the government, because once people feel powerless, they are at the mercy of their government and therefore cannot formulate their own thoughts and opinions to challenge authority. Blind nationalism is an effective tool to control society because they are susceptible to conformity. Failure to adhere to social norms can result in vaporization, as was observed in 1984 when someone displayed irrelevant thoughts in front of a television screen. They are constantly monitored and expected to be angry during Two Minutes of Hate and to act neutral during any other meaningful social interactions. As people gather around a TV screen, Winston observes that "the horrible thing about the two Minutes of Hate was not that we were forced to play a role, but that 'it was impossible to avoid participating in it' (Orwell 16). The Par...... middle of paper......society blurs the line between truth and lies and ends up believing lies as if they were truths. This is facilitated by systematic falsification of information. Since the next generation is also being brainwashed by the government, everyone's sense of helplessness is amplified. Any signs of disobedience to the selected laws of the country are seen by the children, and they would immediately and willingly inform the authorities to convict such people. Counterfeiting has always been practiced to make the government shine in a higher light and prevent society from knowing any truth. They couldn't question what they were being taught or why, they just had to accept it. Through blind nationalism, fake news, and influenced children, the 1984 and Chinese government systems have controlled their respective populations through lies and fear, leaving society in a persistent state of helplessness..
