  • Essay / JB Watson's Behavioral Theory - 726

Freud's psychodynamic theory emphasizes that “personality is shaped by unconscious psychological conflicts” and that “behavior can be influenced by forces outside consciousness”. Since these forces are "outside consciousness", it would be difficult for Watson to know exactly what type of stimulants/forces to apply to achieve the result he desires. This theory also has many limitations, because it is based on concepts that cannot be tested experimentally. If Watson knew the exact connection between these forces and how they affect the individual, then according to Freud, he could unconsciously (especially during childhood) direct the individual to become the specialist.
