Essay / The Ever-Evolving Field of Pharmacy - 639
Pharmacy appeals to me because of its potential to alleviate people's physical and emotional suffering. Simply listening and empathizing with the health and well-being concerns of others inspired me to learn more about the profession. Persistence in college and then in the biotechnology industry allowed me to acquire the research skills necessary to succeed. The ever-changing field of pharmacy would allow me to continue my education, leading to an exciting career. The importance of working hard and not taking anything for granted was strongly emphasized at home. This mindset motivated me to spend more time studying and succeeding in school. Looking back on my undergraduate years, I quickly became intrigued by biology and chemistry classes. I was fascinated by the microbiology of bacterial, fungal, and parasitic pathogens and the resulting infectious diseases. I look forward to learning more about these conditions and guiding patients through appropriate medication regimens in the field of pharmacy. My passion for science continued during my graduate studies in an environmental endocrinology and reproductive physiology laboratory. In a short time, I found my niche as a principal investigator studying the effects of an industrial compound on spermatogenesis and steroidogenesis in rodent models. I completed my research with a deep respect for the complex endocrine processes that interact with the body's systems to maintain homeostasis. I plan to learn more about these processes from a pharmacological perspective in the future. After graduating, I began working for a biotechnology company specializing in female reproductive physiology. As a member of a scientific team, I played an important role in the fundamental stages of research and development...... middle of study...... academic years. In addition to developing my self-confidence and leadership skills, I was able to help my peers succeed. The time spent educating and helping my peers find and apply for scholarships has helped shape, change, and direct my life to serve humanity. As a scholarship recipient, I remember the caring feeling I felt when my mentor reached out to me and helped me through the process. My past has inspired me to pursue a career in which I can use my education, qualities and abilities to the fullest. Becoming a pharmacist is an extension of my genuine interest in the well-being of others. Through my academic, professional and volunteer experiences, I have been able to interact with people of different cultures and ages. I am confident that I will respond to future patients in an empathetic and respectful manner in order to achieve the quality of life they deserve..
