    Some believe that social networking sites should be controlled by the government as this would protect our fellow children and perhaps another generation. For some time there have been media reports that some children have been bullied on these sites, causing them to commit suicide. Was the invention of social networking sites good or bad? Not all children use social media sites to cause chaos or destroy the lives of others and many agree that it has a positive effect. Many people disagree with government control of social media sites. They believe this because the public views it as an invasion of privacy. Freedom has been an issue for centuries. Is it fair for the government to know all our private information? As technology has grown and become essential to our society, many government commissioners fear social media and its authority and power in our society – but does this give them the power to police content online ? This means that the government would have access to personal and confidential information that the public posts on the Internet. Tom Baker, a Liberal Democrat MP, said the response from social media sites was that social media sites contain proprietary and hypersensitive information about their users and that Mr Baker was concerned that the data could potentially be exposed from all government controlled databases. Another newspaper, The Independent, quoted him as saying that the related strategy to preserve telephone and electronic files threatened to constitute "the most expensive snoop charter in history." β€œIt is deeply worrying that they now intend to monitor social media sites which contain highly sensitive data such as sexual orientation, religious beliefs and political opinions,” Mr Bake told... middle of the log......as people should have their privacy when surfing the Internet. Alternatively, the evidence suggests that government can help fight terrorism and end harassment.
