  • Essay / The Perfect College Education: Obama's Plan for College...

Imagine the Perfect College. You're in your senior year of high school and looking at colleges, but it's no longer a month-to-month process. You just know which university is right for you. That's exactly what President Obama wants to do for students, or so he thinks. Obama's plan for college education is to rank colleges and universities by the number of students who graduate and the earnings of their graduates (the Monitor editorial board). Federal aid will then be given to the top-ranked schools, making them more attractive to prospective students (Monitor Editorial Board). Ranking schools will give prospective students better knowledge of the school regarding financial stability and their likelihood of graduating from that school (the Monitor Editorial Board). It would have been great to have him as a high school student. But I have to agree with the Monitor editorial board: college is about more than just graduation percentage and money. My ideal college education is not based on how much money a school can give me or whether I can graduate: no, my ideal college experience is about loving what I learn through hands-on experience, and I just don't believe it. President Obama and the government can help students find their ideal college experience with this ranking system. For me, the ideal college experience is one in which I can love and accept myself. Many students learn by doing, and many do not. Ideally, for me, hands-on learning would be the best education. I remember facts and details better when I actually do them instead of just writing notes on a topic. No matter how many times a practical student rereads these notes, he or she will never... middle of paper ... is better, said the Monitor editorial board, three times the number of A. are distributed more than before, which leads employers to question the student's training. Maybe searching for schools shouldn't be done by ranking; perhaps it should be through months and months of research that the student will know that they are receiving the education that is right for them. And more of the education that the Monitor editorial board and I believe students should receive, an education full of critical thinking and love for what the student is learning. My ideal education is a practical education that will last me not only through college, but throughout my life. Works cited by the Monitor editorial board.
