    Reparative, or reversal, therapy for homosexuality is a little-discussed aspect of the anti-gay community. Programs such as NARTH (National Association for Homosexual Research and Therapy) or Exchange Ministries are organizations specifically aimed at changing a person's sexuality from homosexual to heterosexual. Since different sexualities have been at the center of public opinion, people have tried to change those who identify as such. Some people who participate in such programs choose to do so voluntarily. These are people who are uncomfortable with their attraction to members of the same sex. They want to repress their urges and live a heterosexual life. However, the majority of people enrolled in these therapy sessions are adolescents coerced by their parents. Often these teens and young adults don't want to participate in programs, but most are still trying to come to terms with their sexuality. Still others have accepted who they are and simply don't want to change. Many who voluntarily undergo reversal therapies claim to be cured or at least to have reduced homosexual tendencies. The question is, do these practices actually work? In short: no. They don't. Ask anyone who has undergone these treatments and they will recount a harrowing experience that many of them barely survived. One such case is that of Ryan Kendal. Mr. Kendal's experience is probably one of the most high-profile stories about the effects of reparative therapy in recent years. Ryan was contacted by AFER (American Equal Rights Foundation) to testify in the Perry v. Schwarzenegger trial regarding his unsuccessful and damaging period in reparative therapy (Brydum).
