Essay / Nuclear power plants and nuclear energy - 1786
Nuclear power plants and nuclear energy were born with the discovery of uranium. Uranium was discovered by German scientist Martin Klaproth in 1789 (Uranium). The discovery of uranium led to the future development of new technologies such as nuclear power plants. Obninsk was a city built in 1946 on the orders of Joseph Stalin to conduct research in nuclear physics. Captured German scientists during the Cold War helped Soviet scientists and others from around the world build the world's first nuclear power plant in 1954 (Miteva). Both Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi fled their respective countries to settle in America. Einstein wrote a letter to President Roosevelt and warned him of the dangers of atomic technology in Axis hands and pushed for atomic research. The plan to build an atomic bomb was nicknamed the Manhattan Project. This project would employ 120,000 people, all of whom would have to keep it secret. It was so secret that Vice President Truman did not learn about the Manhattan Project until he became president. In 1945, the first test of the atomic bomb was completed and the project was crowned with success (the Manhattan Project). The world would never be the same again with the development of nuclear bombs and nuclear power plants. Nuclear power plants are changing the way the world works today. There are hundreds of nuclear power plants around the world today that produce energy. Nuclear power plants are a controversial topic today when it comes to providing electricity to the world. Many people think there should be more nuclear power plants, while others disagree and think there should not be more nuclear power plants.
