Essay / The Supernatural in Shakespeare's Macbeth - 601
Use of the Supernatural in MacbethShakespeare's Macbeth involves many supernatural actions. Although not all supernatural elements have exactly the same role in the play, the main purposes of the supernatural are to attract the audience's attention [manipulation], to foreshadow future events, to show the characteristics of the individual and connect the idea to the theme. In the play, the supernatural occurs: the appearance of witches throughout the story, the strange behavior of Macbeth after the murder of King Duncan, the situation of nature in Scotland, the appearance of Banquo's ghost and the imagination of a dagger flying through the air. begins with a strange conversation between sisters under loud thunder and lightning. This is a very effective way to attract the audience's attention: the first witch says with a frightening voice: "When will the three of us meet again, under thunder, lightning or rain?" (I, i, 1-2) The very first scene is not only engaging, but it also contains an important clue about things that will happen in the future [foreshadowing]. We learn that something is going to happen with Macbeth – Macbeth wins for his life, but he will also lose for his life: “There to meet Macbeth” (I, i, 7) “The righteous is evil, and the evil is right. ". (I,i, 11)The Witches' speech also contains a theme. "When one wins, one must lose" is a possible theme that can be taken from the speech: "When the battle is lost and won" (I, i, 4).Witches continue to appear throughout the story to give us excitement, clues and theme.Second, Macbeth loses his mind after the murder of King Duncan. given the situation, we can say that it is attractive: when he reappears in the play after the murder of Duncan, he is a completely different man, like a stone We must be surprised that if Macbeth gets up with his face. bloodied, with bloody swords in his hands and says something that makes no sense: "Why did you bring these daggers from this place?" (II, ii, 48) He also shows the characteristics of Macbeth can easily. falling into confusion that he cannot recognize Third, later in the story, Macbeth sees Banquo's ghost and the dagger in the air. However, the ghost and the dagger are only visible to Macbeth, and no one else is capable of doing so.
