  • Essay / The country of Slovakia - 640

Slovakia is still a developing country. The country of Slovakia was established in 1993. Since 1993, the country of Slovakia has made many progresses. Some of this progress was for the better of the country. However, some were for the worse. This essay will describe the country of Slovakia. The country of Slovakia was established in 1993. They formed after the separation of the country officially known as Czechoslovakia. This formation was separated after a political confrontation over race and language. The Czechs believed that German should be the main language of all Czechoslovaks. While Slovaks believed that Slovak should be the main language. This created great controversy between the two countries. This great controversy, as well as years of tension, caused the separation of the Czechs and Slovaks as of January 1, 1993. After the "great split", Slovakia suffered several hard blows to its economy. Some of them almost “paralyzed” the entire Slovak economy. After many years, the Slovak economy experienced a renaissance. Some of the traditions established in Slovakia are very unusual compared to other parts of the world. At Easter in Slovakia, there are several events that women wait for all year. Early in the morning, women are awakened by being drenched in water. After this first soaking in water, women must then change into dry clothes and wait to be soaked again. Women soaked in water had to purify the body of all evil. They believed that being soaked in water would drive all evil away from the body. After being dipped in water by a village male, the woman had to give a gift to the men who dipped her. Many women present hand-painted Easter eggs. But it is also usual to give money or alcohol. In the afternoon, all men must stop dipping women. It is said that if you soak women after noon, all the evil of the village will enter into these women. The only way you won't get drenched is if you're married or a village elder. Otherwise, you will be drenched by the single men in the village. This is one of the most unusual holidays in Slovakia. There are many other days celebrated by the Slovak people.
