After the Civil War, corporations began to get big, they increased significantly in size, number, and most importantly, influence. Different corporations and businesses grew so much that they had a large impact and considerable power and control in America. corporations began to influence the American people, politics, and the American economy. As these corporations and businesses grew, some became really powerful, which was a good thing and a bad thing. In the post-Civil War United States, large businesses and corporations grew, with both positive and negative impacts on politics, the economy, and the reactions of Americans. The growth of corporations has been beneficial to the economy, mainly because of the costs of different things. The prices indexed between 1870 and 1899 are presented in document A. The document shows that the prices of foodstuffs as well as the prices of fuel and lighting have fallen significantly. It also shows that the cost of living has fallen only slightly, but not as much as the prices of food, fuel and lighting. Different mining and lighting technologies have led to a reduction in fuel and lighting prices. Mass production in general has led to a reduction in the cost of living. Agricultural technology improved, leading to a reduction in food prices (as shown in Document A). The falling prices of local agricultural products worried local farmers, as they would not be able to make any profits as long as mass production and technological advancements continued. Post-Civil War America was controlled by large corporations like Rockefeller and Carnegie. Some of these people tried to use the changes in the United States to benefit the poor. Corporations and large businesses had a great impact in the United States because they held power that resulted in both negative and positive impacts.
